I've only taken up photography for a little over a year. Have had this lens (a mint conditioned non-D version) for 5 months, mainly using it for portraits and people photography in general. When wide open, coupled with good light, the colors and the skin tones this lens produces are just gorgeous. I like this lens for people shots more than the 35mm prime, and that lens is also extraordinary. I feel so lucky to use it as it's like having 3 fast lenses in one - a 35, a 70 and a Macro. Bokeh is sweet and smooth.
I noticed this lens produces photos with flare or haze when there is dramatic light coming from the side. For example direct afternoon sun beams from a window. So I'm learning more about exposure to work around that, and be aware of the lighting.
The macro feature requires manual focus, which this lens does so smoothly with excellent sharpness.
Pros: sharp, fast speed, dead on focus, great colors, macro, bokeh, well built. cons: possible flare issue & that they don't make them anymore.
A great buy and a keeper :-)Get more detail about Nikon 35-70mm f/2.8D AF Zoom Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras.
