Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G ED AF-S Nikkor Wide Angle Zoom Lens This instant

Perfect WA lens, I don't think you could ask for any better. I useed to think my Tokina 12-24mm f/4.0 was good, but since I've got this lens, I haven't used it much. corner to corners are amazingly sharp that are better than any primes out there. usually at this WA, one would expect severe distortion, but this lens has very minimal distortion compare to other WA. Only draw back is you can't use filter and front element can be easily scratched.Get more detail about Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G ED AF-S Nikkor Wide Angle Zoom Lens.

Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8G ED AF-S Nikkor Wide Angle Zoom Lens Order Now

I purchased this lens about 8 months ago. I shoot a D300 with grip. I have traveled to a variety of places and taken some amazing pictures with it. The lens is very versatile in a landscape and portrait setting. There are some times when I wish I was carrying a 14-24mm however, as a main lens for travel and portrait photography it's fantastic. Additionally, the auto focus is quiet and precise when coupled with manual focus point use. The zoom is smooth and precise as well.

With all that said, there has been one inexcusable flaw and the subsequent fix for this was unacceptable.

After shooting a panorama at the top of a mountain at very small apertures, I found blemishes in all of the photos. It turns out that from the time that I purchased it to when I took those photos (about 1 week) some sort of internal material had collected on the inside of the rear element. As such I had about 60 photos that needed to be corrected.

Returning to the states, I was told that I would have to send the lens back to a processing center. This in my opinion is grudgingly acceptable, however the policy should have been to replace not repair. The final straw was being told to pay the return shipping and the packaging fee. After spending nearly $2,000 for a lens and finding a flaw the hard way, I would expect at the very least the burden would be on the manufacturer and/or supplier to correct their issue.

I purchased this product from Bromfield Camera Co. in Boston. I had hoped to support a local business, but it seems one simply pays more for the same level of service that you'd get from an online shop.

In closing, inspect the rear element before purchase and during early use - also, take a few blank shots of a white object at f/22 to see if there is an internal contamination for the first few weeks of use.Get more detail about Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8G ED AF-S Nikkor Wide Angle Zoom Lens.

Lowest Price Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras

Hello,
I have received this product and this is defective where I am getting very soft images at all fStops. I called up Canon customer care for replaacement but they did not give me that option. I have returned to India now and I spoke to Canon India, they said that they will charge for it.

Low Price Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 SP XR ZL Di LD Aspherical (IF) for Canon Digital SLR Cameras

Not having the change to spring for the Canon "L" equivalent, I did my research and decided this would more than suffice. Having used it for some recent photos, I can say it was a good decision. Build quality seems quite good and the zoom mechanism has just the right feel. Sharpness at normal aperatures is very good and even at f2.8 is not too soft on my Canon 20D. Should make a good 'walkabout' lens and even a credible portrait lens at 60mm+ (although it is hard to beat the portraits taken with my 50mm f1.4). There is a little autofocus searching under dimmer light conditions, but not bad and certainly not a problem for normal landscape photos that I like to take. Comes with a short hood, unlike many Canon lenses. My first Tamron. Nice job Tamron! Get more detail about Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 SP XR ZL Di LD Aspherical (IF) for Canon Digital SLR Cameras.

Save Tamron AF 17-50mm F/2.8 XR Di-II LD SP ZL Aspherical (IF) Zoom Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras

This is a great lens. It delivers the vivid colors and super sharp images all across the focal range. It's light and compact so so you will barely know its there especially if you are use to heaver lenses like Canon 16-40 F/4L, this lens closest rival. This is no "L" lens when it comes to build quality and autofocus speed, but I will give it a slight edge on image sharpness and it is about half the price of Canon's. I would rate the auto focus and build about 7 out of 10. It should stand up to good use over the years as long as nothing to major happens. I would say this lens is definitely the better choice over the Sigma version. Another advantage with the Canon lens besides what I already said is the Canon can be used on full frame cameras, this lens unfortunately can not. So when deciding on which lens to get this will be a area to give some thought. Overall, this lens can not be beat for the price. Cheapest Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens for Canon SLR Cameras

First, I shoot with a Canon 40D and am an on-location photographer of families and children. I also love shooting nature and "things" - close ups of rust, the curve of a bench chair, dew on clematis, etc...

This lens is amazing for my purposes! At 2.8 I can follow playful toddlers around in a variety of lighting conditions and still get the shot. And for posed portraits, the bokeh is amazing, people have never looked so good! So overall, I prefer this lens to my 70-200 f4 L, even though I can't zoom and have to move myself to compose shots. But the lower f-stop, the tack-sharp images, the ability to shoot macro, the weight (it seems lighter and less bulky than my 70-200), all tip the scale in the 100mm's favor.

If you were considering the 70-200 f4 and decide to get the 100mm, you might want to consider picking up the "nifty fifty" 1.8 - another prime lens, and quite inexpensive too, but one of my FAVORITES, so versatile, I just love it. You can get wonderful dof effects by shooting things up close - the eyelashes of a child, an engagement ring perched on a newborn's foot, the stamens of a lily....plus it lets you shoot group shots indoors with relative ease....

Anyway, back to the 100mm - a great investment, I use this lens all the time and it is fantastic. Get more detail about Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens for Canon SLR Cameras.

Cheap Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Aspherical IF Macro Zoom Lens with Built in Motor for Nikon DSLR Cameras

Ok. I recently got a D90 and had bought the 55-200 Nikon lens with it. But I wanted to get a good walk around lens for an upcoming trip through CA & NV. So I finalized the Nikon 18-200 (5 yr warranty) & Tamron 18-270 (6 yr warranty). I had to eliminate the Sigma (1yr warranty) due to significant number of users having their lens go bad in 2-12 months.
I bought it from Amazon last week hoping to keep it or return it for the 18-200 Nikon if there were significant problems. I find that after 400 photos, I see excellent photos and great Vibration Compensation (VR or VRII on Nikon). On low light (maybe 1 candle light equivalent) it takes a tad longer (extra 2-3 seconds) to focus, but I can't comment about it unless I can compare against the Nikon 18-200.
However I compared the Tamron against the 55-200 Nikon that I already have and whenever the Tamron struggled to autofocus, so did the Nikon under the same parameters. At improved lighting, the Tamron was better than 55-200. The Tamron did better than the Nikon 18-55mm too in similar lighting. I know I cannot extrapolate these results to the Nikon 18-200, but I have to wait until I can borrow it from my friend to compare.
Compared to the Nikon being another three-hundred&fifty more, I don't know if it is that much better.
I'm very impressed with the build quality of the Tamron lens. Seems well made. I like the autofocus locking speed and pic quality is crisp in most lighting conditions, zoom, shutter & aperture settings. The motor is slightly more noisier than nikon lens, but it does not even bother me. I think is is something that will bother someone who really wants to find fault with this lens. I do feel that people with D90 & D300 have great experiences with this lens while d80 and d200 and older bodies, people complain. So maybe that might be a factor in less stars? I have another 28 days more to evaluate this lens or exchange for the Nikon. I will come back and edit this review if I find anything to the contrary. But so far it is a great buy and looks like a keeper. I reviewed thousands of pictures in pbase & flickr before I felt this lens even merited a try and so far hasn't failed to impress me.

2009-Nov-14: Its been almost 2 weeks with the Tamron. I also purchased a Nikon 18-200 from Amazon hoping to keep one of them. There is lens creep in both the Nikon and the Tamron. I took a few pictures in low light of the same subject, hand held, VR/VC ON @ 200mm, 0.63 secs exposure, ISO 1600. f5.6 on Nikon & f6.3 on Tamron. I did a side by side compare in Paintshop at 60% zoom of the 4288x2848 image and I see the Tamron has better details, sharpness. The setting was indoors with two 3 w bulbs about 10 feet away at night. I have to try the same on a tripod though. I'm thinking why not spend the money saved when buying a Tamron (almost three-thirty as of today) towards a high speed lens for specialized night shooting if/when needed and/or a Nikon SB-600 flash. So far I like the Tamron. I'm an amateur, but comparing pics side by side with the two lenses is slowly convincing me to keep the Tamron. Will update again if I find anything more to add.

Of course be sure to read the reviews at DPReview for both lenses where they rate the Nikon slightly better. Also look at pics taken at pbase & flickr for the lenses.Get more detail about Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Aspherical IF Macro Zoom Lens with Built in Motor for Nikon DSLR Cameras.

Buying Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED AF-S DX Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras

I read everything I could about wide zooms FX and DX. For DX, this one is the best. I bought it for a photo safari to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, Canada, and another to Big Bend National Park.

The Tokina may be a good lens, but the zoom range is very limited. At 11mm by 16mm the Nikon is at least as good plus you still have range to use. That makes the Nikkor a no brainer.

I just returned from a 8 day photo safari of the upper east coast of the USA, and Canada. I took over 800 photos most with this lens. As it turned out I was very happy I bought the Nikon 10-24mm, and did not choose the Tokina 11-16mm. The added range made all the difference.

Light Houses, harbor sunsets, ships at sea, city streets, building interiors, and lots more. This lens was on my D90, and a 18-200mm on my D40.Get more detail about Nikon 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5G ED AF-S DX Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras.

Buy Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens

For those of us with cameras that don't have a full frame sensor (this translates roughly to anyone who has "less" than a 5D in quality), this lens is a must. Why?

-- the zoom range of this lens, combined with the 1.6 cropping factor on (many) cameras, means that the actual working range of the lens is pretty close to human perspective. That is, it looks like things look using your eyes :-)

-- this particular lens is very fast at f/2.8, so low light situations are less painful.

-- odd comment: the lens is a nice size for daily carrying. Nicely balances the camera, plenty of area to grip, but not too much that sticks out. Comfortable... which means you'll turn to it more.

Lastly, I'm an advocate for engaging your subject whenever you can (though that's not always possible :-) With this as your daily carry lens, you'll be forced to walk right up to the people and things you're shooting. It forces you to engage, but still give you an opportunity to frame the shot with a lot of flexibility, since the zoom is pretty wide.Get more detail about Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM Ultra Wide Angle Zoom Lens.

Purchase Nikon 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR ED Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras

I had been looking for the perfect lens for portraits. This lens covers the exact zoom length I need, while retaining the wide angle.
I was nervous about getting a refurbished camera lens. No problems at all. In fact, you would never even know it's a refurb.
It's not a "fast" lens. But, you won't get a fast lens with VR. That's ok. It's easy to make up the difference with shutter speed. And for doing photos in a church, where it's rude to use a flash, it opens up enough. Again, shutter speed helps there. Plus, shooting in RAW makes all the difference in the world.
Lenses are personal. Just do your research, and figure out what you need.Get more detail about Nikon 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6 AF-S DX VR ED Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras.

Order Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras

There are many reviews on this item, so the quality has already been spoken for, the best thing about this is the ability to carry it everywhere. This is a nice zoom to hike with, going to the zoo, or just shooting the kids outside at play. I have rented the 2.8 version of this one and it can get rough on the arms. Very nice lens, fantastic quality, and easy to use. Get more detail about Canon EF 70-200mm f/4 L IS USM Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras.

Where To Buy Nikon 50mm f/1.4D AF Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras

I have been using this lens for a while. It is the lens that spends the most time in front of my D700. This is the perfect available light/walk around lens. If you are good at not shaking when you move you can get away with 1/4 second shots with this lens. Wide open the lens isn't the best there is but I don't look at the pictures with a magnifying lens anyway. Remember when using the lens you have to use the foot zoom feature, walking closer or further away from the subject. And the 50mm was pretty much the only lens Henri Cartier-Bresson used, if it is good enough for him it is good enough for me.Get more detail about Nikon 50mm f/1.4D AF Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras.

Shop For Canon EF 70-200mm f/4L USM Telephoto Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras

Not much more that I can add about this lens that's already been said over and over other than to confirm this is still the best lens bargain there is. I've not seen or heard of anything in the same price range that comes close to the construction and optical performance of the 70-200 f4L. Not having the f2.8L aperture or image stabilization might seem like a handicap, but when used within the limit parameters of light and shutter speed, this lens delivers. But for me the extra advantage is using this lens on the 7D where the superior high ISO performance lets me shoot in situations normally reserved for an f2.8. Stage performance shots where ISO 1600 was required at f2.8 - f3.5 at 1/125 - 1/160 sec is not a problem with this lens at f4 when you can dial up the ISO to 3200 or higher, still retain 1/125 sec and get sharp pictures. If subject movement requires a shutter speed of 1/125 sec or higher, then image stabilization isn't really a benefit (I have steady hands for sharp pics down to 1/125 sec at 200mm).

What I really like this lens for is portrait work at the wide end - dynamic portrait shots with motion where the 7D auto focus system and USM of the lens nails focus in an instant and the sharpness, contrast and color of the image is about as good as it gets with an APS-C. The light weight of the lens makes it a pleasure to carry around. The only negative I can think of is not having weather sealing, which is only on the IS models. Looking forward to adding a 1.4x TC for sporting/nature shots.

Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Standard Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras Review

This lens came rattling in a plain box, wrapped in bubble wrap. Focus and contrast was not as sharp as I expected - perhaps the poor packing/shipping had some effect on this or perhaps it is a bad copy. Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens for Canon DSLR Cameras Top Quality

This is the lens that should be on every crop frame Canon. The focal range of this lens, as in the stock kit lens, is wide enough to capture just about any scene, with just enough reach to grab more distant subjects. This lens is incredibly sharp, maybe not quite as sharp as the 50mm prime, but is amazing for a zoom lens, and the f/2.8 aperture produces amazing background blur for portrait and macro photography.

I recently took this lens on a backpacking trip through Yosemite, along with a Sigma 10-20mm ultrawide and a Tamron 18-270 superzoom. Despite the Tamron covering nearly the exact same focal range as the Canon, plus a whole lot more, I still found myself using the Canon lens 95% of the time. The quality of the pictures it produces are simply unsurpassed, and the speed of the lens makes it great for having to snap a quick picture while walking on the trail. The only issue is the lens seems to grind a little bit when moving the zoom and focus rings. It just doesn't have the most fluid of feels. I'm not sure if this is just the way is, or if it picked up some dust inside it while on the trail. Since this lens was outside its case on my camera almost all the time, I wouldn't be surprised if some of the dust from the trail wound up in the lens.

This is still the one lens that manages to make it into my lens bag no matter where I'm headed, and for that reason, I could not think of a better way to spend my $1,000.Get more detail about Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM Lens for Canon DSLR Cameras.

Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM SLR Lens for EOS Digital SLRs Immediately

I bought this lens a week ago and have found it to be a good choice, though not up to Takina's 12-24 F/4 which I would say is the best lens in this class. The Canon is lighter which makes it comfortable to shoot with a heaver camera like the 50D espically with a battery grip on, which I don't own yet but plan on buying soon. The extra two degrees at the wide end is a big advantage also with this lens, though you lose it at the zoomed range this is not such an issue as I think most people who will buy this lens will have that covered buy another lens if the really need it.

This lens is soft in the corners especially wide open, this is common in a lens of this class and the Takina also does this but not to the degree of this Canon it also handles CA better and the Takina I would say has a much stronger build. Takina is well known for making tank lenses. I would take this lens over the Sigma and Tamron versions (Tamron usually I find to be the best for 3rd party lenses), but in my opinion, the Takina just out performs these lenses and does so with a constant F/4 aperture which is very important to me. Flare control does seem a bit better also with this lens though not by much, it can make a big difference in some shooting scenes.

This is a great lens overall, so don't think I am unhappy with it. If the lens was cheaper I would probably recommend it but it's the same price a Takina's, Sigmas and Tamrons without the benefits so I will be returning it.

If you can't get the Takina this would be a great second choice.Get more detail about Canon EF-S 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 USM SLR Lens for EOS Digital SLRs.

Nikon 50mm f/1.4G SIC SW Prime Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras Decide Now

Bought this lens for indoor shooting in the evenings (do a lot of event photography so always hunting for fastest lenses). Unfortunately my unit is not focusing properly on my D80 body - actual focal plane seems to be ~1% farther than what you try to focus on (and at f1.4, 1% does matter). As the D80 does not have AF microadjustments, this lens is unusable to me.

I wonder what kind of focusing mechanism Nikon has that the results vary from lens to lens... For example, my experience with fastest Sigmas was particularly horrible - nearly ALL of the ones I tried (20mm f1.8, 24 f1.8, 28 f1.8) focus ~5% in front, which would not even be correctable by D300's microadjustments...

Anyway, don't buy this lens online if you can try it in your local store.Get more detail about Nikon 50mm f/1.4G SIC SW Prime Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras.

Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM Standard Zoom Lens for Canon SLR Cameras Right now

I am a hobbyist and this review is for people like me. What I mean by that is that I take pictures for fun and nobody buys my pictures. I mostly shoot landscape, nature, and portraits of family, friends, and relatives. I will refer to 24-70mm as the 70, and the 24-105mm IS as the 105. I first made the mistake of buying the 70, then I returned it with a hefty restocking fee and bought the 105 - I don't have the slightest regret and I could not be happier. I'm taking my time to write this review so that you can spend your hard earned money wisely. Let's analyze the trade-off between the two:
* Both lenses have excellent build and image quality. So these are not differentiating factors.
* The one and only advantage of the 70 is the one smaller f-stop. For me, this means more blur when I shoot portraits, so this is all good.
* The advantage of 105 over the 70 are as follows:
- You get an extra 35mm, which is 50% more zoom. I like this.
- You get a 3-stop IS. For me, this is a great advantage, because I rarely use tripods and IS saves the day. I would choose the 105 over 70 for the IS alone.
- The 105 is 10 ounces lighter and close to half an inch shorter.
The last part is the most important part: that additional 10 ounces make a heavy lens TOO HEAVY, and that extra length makes a big lens TOO BIG. Carrying the 70 on my 50D was a pain. I can assure you, the 70 is just too heavy to walk around and take pictures for fun. The keyword here is "fun". The 70 is a pain, the 105 is fun. The 105 is still heavy, but not too heavy. It's still big, but not too big. After having the 70 for a few weeks, I lost all my joy for shooting. It just made me very uncomfortable (and I'm 6-foot 2). When I replaced it with the 105, it did make a difference. I enjoy taking pictures now, once again. Pros might like the 70 because they need it for their professional work. But if you're shooting just for fun, stay away from the 70. Again, this is from my point of view as a hobbyist, and this is why I gave the 70 one star.

Lowest Price Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Standard Zoom Lens for Canon DSLR Cameras

I am a professional photographer specializing in weddings for over 30 years. I have used medium format cameras, 35mm cameras, and now digital since the Canon D30 hit the market. I have used all types of lenses, Prime, USM, IS, even the pricey L series. Not much of a fan of the L series too heavy for my likes. I have used USM lenses solely because of the focus speed, but after using the 18-200mm I couldn't believe how fast and spot on the focus was, I lock my focus with the rear AF-ON button using the center zone. I was amazed when I did use auto zone focus the lens still performed spot on! I photographed with a Canon 40D with the 18-200 for an entire wedding... over 10 hours and 2600 images with fantastic results. I read somewhere that Canon updated the connection on the rear of the lens to communicate better with the camera body, perhaps the reason for eliminating the Ultra Sonic Motor (USM) on this lens and other EF-S lenses. Selling my 1D MKII for a Canon 7D and most of my lenses for more EF-S... perhaps another 18-200mm!Get more detail about Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Standard Zoom Lens for Canon DSLR Cameras.

Low Price Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM Medium Telephoto Lens for Canon SLR Cameras

Five stars does not do this lense justice. I recently read all the reviews available on this and other sites they all proclaimed this lense as a fantastic buy, its better than that. This lense is a steal at the price, equivilent quality costs over $1000 usually, for portraits its the only lense to have at the price, if there is something better on the market in the price range I havn't seen it. The sharpness and clairity even in near darkness was way better than I was expecting and in comparison to my L lenses this is on a par. This is such a good deal I may get another just in case I lose the first one. If you buy no other lense, get this one. Actually I was disappointed when I bought the 70-200L but have not been disappointed with the 70-300 IS. I also owned the 70-300 non IS and would not recommend that one at all.I took pictures when it had rained all day and heavy overcast and the pictures were awesome. I would recommend this lens to anybody that's not professional but wants some nice pics that are close to professional.Get more detail about Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM Lens for Canon EOS SLR Cameras.

Cheapest Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S ED VR II Telephoto Zoom Lens for Nikon DX-Format Digital SLR Cameras

This is probably the so called "lens to rule them all" lens from nikon, well not that great, but it could very well substitute for many lens one may potentially have. For starters, this phat barrel can go from 18mm all the way to 200mm (duh*). Though it isn't that much of a fast lens, the aperture is sufficient for almost all daylight activity in the focal range. For people who just got into the dslr system, this is the lens to get.

In my pouch, I have this lens and the 35mm f1.8 prime lens for my portrait shots and night shots. I had not need to switch out the 18-200mm when I go out to take pictures, and that shows how awesome this lens is. Definitely recommended!Get more detail about Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S ED VR II Telephoto Zoom Lens for Nikon DX-Format Digital SLR Cameras.

Cheap Nikon 55-200mm f4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Nikkor Zoom Lens (Black)

This is a very light lens.
Absolutely no type of metal is used
in the construction of this lens.
Even the mount is plastic so beware of that
when purchasing this.
I highly recommend not ever dropping this lens
if you do then there went your 109$.

I would pay more to have the 18-200 vr.
with better build quality, vr, and wider angle.Get more detail about Nikon 55-200mm f4-5.6G ED AF-S DX Nikkor Zoom Lens (Black).

Purchase Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras

This lens is every bit worth the price and more!!! Gives a nice soft background blur at wide apertures (f/1.8-f/2.8) when the subject is within the proper focusing distance. Prior to this lens I was using a Nikon AF 50mm f/1.4D and was very satisfied with its picture quality, but was annoyed at how loud it was (non-SWM model). Luckily before purchasing the new Nikon AF-S 50mm f/1.4 SWM, Nikon introduced this baby, at a VERY VERY good price. This lens is great for portraits and general photography and is definitely fast and very quiet (because of its internal Silent Wave Motor technology). It's considered a wide-angle lens as it gives a reasonable wide field-of-view (FOV), and it's also safe to call it's a "night" lens as its very wide aperture (f/1.8) gives it enough light gathering capabilities that you don't always need to use a tripod for night shooting [use moderate-high ISO (>600), combined with moderate-low shutter speed (<1/80s) to reduce ghosting caused my shaky hands etc. without using flash that is.] Another great feature of this lens is that it can be used with the Nikon R1C1 kit, as it's internal focusing motor does not require the focusing ring to move in and out like D type lens etc.

I currently am using a Nikon D300 w/ MD-10 battery pack and had 5 lenses prior to this one. I bought this lens because it was the only lens that I really lacked and I feel it has completed my collection. I'm very satisfied with the picture quality, the weight (very light lens), the color, and it's quietness. A great addition to any user, beginner/amateur/pro. Order Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras

I was a fan of DSLR photography long before I purchased my first camera, often using a cruddy old Canon DSLR for my work at The Arbiter, Boise State University's student media group. This being the case, I saved up and purchased a Nikon D90 12.3MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only) for my first camera (which I love).

I bought this lens instead of going for the kit, because of its fantastic reviews. The lens delivers: Beautiful colors and clarity, sharp and easy focus, and fantastic dim-light photography, with an outstanding range of DOF. I usually open the aperture all the way up for a gorgeous and shallow DOF. With this lens I can take a picture of someone's face, placing their eyes in perfect focus and allowing most of the face to occupy the exterior of the DOF, creating a flattering soft focus.

Why this may not be the best first lens for you (if you are not already a semi-experienced to experienced photographer): It is a pretty long prime lens. This means that it isn't especially well-adjusted to landscape photography, which is a fantastic way to practice composition. It also isn't the best for candid photography (an advantage of many primes, which are less obtrusive than zoom lenses and can be easily carried around with the camera), because of its longer focal length. You have to be quite a ways away from your subject unless you prefer close-ups.

Conclusion: This lens is awesome. If you have a couple lenses and know what you are doing I recommend it as heavily as I possibly can. Prime lenses are great first lenses--they make you ad lib composition and move your feet instead of just zooming in and out until it looks okay. They are also cheaper for their quality than zoom lenses. However, a shorter prime (20-30mm) may be best for a first purchase. I love this lens though, and wouldn't trade it for anything, so even a beginner might love this lens once they adjust to it.Get more detail about Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Nikkor Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras.
